Police say they've put the brakes on a mother-son team behind a string of thefts spanning four counties including Berks.

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -

A woman and her son have been arrested in a string of vehicle break-ins and thefts that span at least four counties, including Berks.

Lois Pack, 76, and her son, Everett Pack, 37, both of Gap, were caught in the act last week, smashing two windows of a vehicle on a park-and-ride lot in Mount Joy Twp., Lancaster Co., police said.

Officers conducting surveillance of the suspects observed the mother-son team removing items from the vehicle, which was put in place on the lot for the surveillance detail, police said.

The suspects were immediately apprehended.

Many of the previous thefts on the same park-and-ride lot involved tools and other construction and commercial equipment, as well as vehicle batteries, said police, noting that the total value of items taken is estimated to be more than $25,000, not including costs for the repair of broken windows.

The Packs, police said, may also be involved in thefts from vehicles parked at several other park-and-ride lots, as well as from a home and numerous storage facilities in Berks, Chester, Dauphin and Lancaster counties.

Everett Pack was committed to the Lancaster County prison on prior burglary charges and a probation violation; Lois Pack was released pending further investigation, police said.

Police said any victims of the Packs' alleged crimes should contact the police department to which the incident was initially reported for further follow-up.
