Woman beats boyfriend with rod from his back brace
A Bethlehem woman has been arrested for removing a rod from her fiance's back brace and striking him on the back with it.
She also punched him in the face, causing swelling under his right eye and a cut on the bridge of his nose.
Twenty-two-year-old Tiffany Marie Hanley was charged with aggravated assault, harassment and simple assault.
She lives with the victim in an apartment in the first block of E. Garrison Street in the city, where the crime occurred shortly before 4 a.m. Thursday. The couple has a child.
Bethlehem police who responded to a call about a domestic disturbance heard a woman screaming obscenities from inside the apartment.
Police saw Hanley standing over the male victim and screaming at him. The male was on the floor in a fetal position, with his arms and hands covering the back of his head and neck.
Police ordered her to back away.
The victim said Hanley had punched him more than an hour earlier, during an argument outside the apartment. He told police it escalated again just before they arrived, when she removed the rod from his brace and struck him on the back.
The victim had a cut in the area of his right shoulder blade.
He told police he wears the back brace because he suffers from Osteomyelitis, a degenerative bone disease, and also has degenerative disk diseases.
Police said Hanley is fully aware of her finace's medical condition.
She is in Northampton County Prison. Bail was set at $25,000.
A preliminary hearing was scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Jan. 3 before Magisterial District Judge Roy Manwaring II.
