The Wilson WL girls could not get past the second round of the state tournament for the second straight year. The Spring-Ford girls, however, advanced to the quarterfinals.

For the second straight year, the Wilson West Lawn girls basketball team was defeated in the second round of the PIAA tournament. The Bulldogs fell to Abington, 53-43, at Coatesville. The Spring-Ford girls, on the other hand, advanced to the quarterfinals with a 42-35 win over Mechanicsburg at Garden Spot.

The District 3 champions from Wilson trailed from the first quarter on and could not find a way to get into rhythm. Senior Ivory Bailey paced Wilson with 15 points. Fellow senior Carley Brew added 10 points. Seniors Jessie Wallace and Avery Marz scored 6 and 5 points, respectively, in their final games with Wilson.

The Bulldogs lost at Coatesville last season as the District 3 champions. North Penn was the opponent.

Wilson finishes the year at 23-8.

Abington will meet Spring-Ford in the quarterfinals. The Rams rallied to beat Mechanicsburg, 42-35, at Garden Spot on Tuesday.

Sammy Stipa took over in the final five minutes, scoring half of her team-high 14 points there. Shelby Mueller added another 11 points for the defending state champs, who trailed by 4 after 3 quarters.

Abington/Spring-Ford will play Friday at a place and time to be decided.
