A Flemington police officer, who was injured when his gun discharged in an apparent accident, is ready to return to work, Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns III said on Wednesday.
Officer William Svard of the Flemington Police Department sustained a minor leg injury after his duty weapon apparently discharged accidentally on April 17 in a parking lot off South Main Street in Raritan Township, Kearns said.
“Detective Sergeant Svard was treated and released from Morristown Medical Center following the incident," Kearns said. "He plans on returning to work next week. We are relieved that his injury was minor and grateful for his speedy recovery.”
The Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office and the New Jersey State Police Ballistics Unit continue to investigate the incident.
