Police have arrested a man in the stabbing of an acquaintance in Hunterdon Co., N.J., over the weekend.
The alleged assault happened early Saturday morning in the Hunter Hills apartment complex in Flemington.
Officers responded for the report of a man cut with an unknown object. They arrived to find that the victim suffered a laceration to his neck, police said. He was rushed to the trauma center at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital for treatment.
The subsequent investigation identified Florencio Salvador Reyes-Cruz as the suspect.
"Mr. Reyes-Cruz allegedly slashed at the victim’s neck with a small knife for an unknown reason while drinking in the victim’s apartment. He then fled the scene prior to police arrival," said Anthony Kearns, Hunterdon County prosecutor.
Detectives were able to track down Reyes-Cruz to a location on Route 22 in Readington Township, Kearns said. He was charged with aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon. He was committed to the Hunterdon County Jail on $50,000 bail.
Authorities said they later learned that Reyes-Cruz was sought in a similar incident in Pennsylvania, but they did not elaborate on the case.
