UPPER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. -

The Upper Macungie Township Board of Supervisors made it clear Thursday night that at the very least, Ocean Spray owes them an explanation.

Vice Chairman Sam Ashmar accused Ocean Spray of misrepresenting their traffic routes to Upper Macungie Township officials prior to township approval.

"I am very disappointed to learn that what was represented to the Planning Commission and what was represented to the Board of Supervisors under numerous occasions and probably the Zoning Board, somewhere along the line Ocean Spray, their representatives told everyone their truck traffic would make a left-hand turn out of their parking lot, proceed to Boulder Drive, make a right on Industrial Boulevard and come up Grim Road and cross Nestle Way," said Ashmar.

He says Ocean Spray said it would not use Boulder Drive or Schantz Road and it would not use the intersection of Route 100 and Schantz Road.

"Now I find out they are investing in a $9.3 million warehouse in Weisenberg Township. So somebody needs to get a hold of Ocean Spray and I insist they have a meeting with the Board of Supervisors to address if they are going to come out of cash to help us upgrade these intersections," he said.

That warehouse will be owned by National Freight Industries, NFI, and will handle supply chain responsibilities for Ocean Spray.

The building is a 980,000 square foot building and is located in the West Hills Business Center in Weisenberg Township.

"I don''t know of any other way they are going to get to Weisenberg Township unless they are willing to come back here and address this with the board. Because this is a major miscommunication with the board," said Ashmar.

The Board voted 3-0 to adopt a resolution to have the Township Solicitor contact Ocean Spray to have them appear before the Board of Supervisors at an upcoming meeting.

Ocean Spray did not have representation at Thursday night's meeting.
