A Chicago-bound freight train struck and killed two men who police say were walking in the middle of the tracks in Montgomery County.

Police said Saturday that the Norfolk Southern train struck them from behind around 7:30 a.m. and they died instantly.

No information about the identities of the victims was available.

Lower Merion police say the men were walking by an abandoned Valley Forge National Historical Park train station.

Norfolk Southern spokesman Dave Pidgeon says he doesn't know how fast the westbound train was traveling when it struck the pedestrians, but says the track speed is 50 miles per hour.

Pidgeon says the train's two crew members weren't hurt.
