The recreation areas at Blue Marsh Lake and the Union Canal trails along the Tulpehocken Creek in Berks County have reopened.

SPRING TWP., Pa. -

The recreation areas at Blue Marsh Lake and the Union Canal trails along the Tulpehocken Creek in Berks County have reopened.

The beach and boat launches at the lake and the creek trails downstream were closed Tuesday after heavy rains raised the lake's level by about three feet, forcing the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to release a substantial amount of water.

"The level of the pool at Blue Marsh Lake has receded to a point that permits the project to open the Dry Brooks Day Use Area and all boat launches to the public," said Scott Sunderland, supervisory natural resource management specialist. "Visitors should use caution as numerous objects could have floated into the lake or been deposited on the lake bottom and shoreline."

The Berks County Parks and Recreation Department has also completed the necessary maintenance to reopen the Tulpehocken Creek trails.
