Schuylkill Co - Bridge Project in Port Carbon

Work began Tuesday, April 22 to replace the Pottsville Street Bridge over Mill Creek in Port Carbon Borough, Schuylkill County.

The contractor will be replacing the existing structural deficient concrete T-beam bridge with a concrete box beam bridge.

During construction Pottsville Street will be closed and detoured between Commerce and Pike streets. Traffic will be detoured on Commerce, Jackson, Coal, and Market streets

A temporary traffic signal will be utilized to control traffic at the intersection of Coal and Jackson Street during construction.

The project is scheduled to be complete in October 2014. All schedules are subject to change.

Heim Construction Co., Inc. of Orwigsburg, Pa. is the general contractor on the $1,797,789 project.

The Pottsville Street Bridge was originally constructed in 1927. It is 64 feet long and 56 feet wide. The new bridge will be 60 feet long and 35 feet wide. This section of Pottsville Street has an average daily traffic volume of 4,144 vehicles.
