update 1/5/2015:

A truck detour will start Tuesday (Feb. 10) on Route 32 (River Road) in Tinicum and Plumstead townships, Bucks County, for construction of the new bridge over Tohickon Creek at Point Pleasant.

Truck traffic on Route 32 (River Road) will be detoured over U.S. 202 and Route 611 for the next 16 months to bypass the bridge under construction. The implementation of the truck detour is necessitated due to the alignment of the roadway and the temporary bridge over Tohickon Creek. Truck traffic will be maintained up to the construction zone and truck drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling along this section of Route 32 (River Road).

Route 32 (River Road) will remain open to passenger vehicles as motorists will continue to use the temporary bridge that was built to keep Route 32 (River Road) open during construction of the new structure.

Construction crews are replacing the existing two-span reinforced concrete arch bridge on Route 32 (River Road) with a new two-span precast concrete arch structure. The new bridge will be adorned with an aesthetic stone finish on the support abutments and wing walls.

The new bridge will be 160 feet long and 37 feet wide. It will have two 11-foot travel lanes, a six-foot wide sidewalk adjacent to the northbound travel lane, and three-foot shoulders.

The former bridge was built in 1922. It was 156 feet long and 27 feet wide. The bridge was a contributing resource to the Point Pleasant Historic District.

Loftus Construction, Inc., of Cinnaminson, N.J., is the general contractor on the $5,970,000 project which is financed with 100 percent state funds. Construction began in December 2013 and the new bridge is scheduled to open in May 2016.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that construction is scheduled to begin Monday (Dec. 9) to replace the structurally-deficient Route 32 (River Road) Bridge over the Tohickon Creek in Tinicum and Plumstead townships, Bucks County.

PennDOT will maintain traffic flow on Route 32 (River Road) during construction by building a temporary bridge immediately upstream from the existing structure. Motorists will travel on the temporary bridge until the new bridge opens in 2015.
