PHILLIPSBURG, Pa. -

Officials are investigating what sparked a fire that tore through an apartment complex in Phillipsburg, New Jersey.

The fire broke out at 6:45 Monday morning at the Village Arms Apartments at 451 Heckman Road.

Everyone was able to make it out of the eight-unit building safely, but officials say a pet bird died in the fire.

Investigators say the fire started in apartment 311. That unit was seriously damaged by the flames. A neighboring apartment suffered smoke and heat damage.

Crews were able to get the fire under control in about 20 minutes.

The Phillipsburg Fire and Police Departments are investigating the cause, along with the Warren County Prosecutor's Office.
