Thousands still facing power outages across region

Storm damage caused thousands to remain in the dark Monday, several days after the icy snowstorm that brought down tree brances, power lines and poles.
PECO representative Ben Armstrong told 69 News that the storm damage was equal to that seen post Hurricane Sandy.
"It's been a little rough," said Maria McCarthy, of Schuylkill Township, Chester County.
As of Monday afternoon, McCarthy was one of 14,000 customers across the region who remained without power. Hers was one of the hardest-hit areas; officials said half of the reported outages are in Chesco.
"We do have a generator and that was a godsend. I don't know what we would have done without it," said McCarthy.
In East Coventry Township, many fortunately saw restoration over the weekend. There, Victor Dinnocenti was out for 5 days before power returned Saturday evening.
"It was a little chilly in the house," said Dinnocenti. "We couldn't read the thermometer on the wall because it was down as low as it could go."
Officials suspected most customers would have their power back by Monday night, although some will likely have problems going into Tuesday.
"It's upsetting, however I know that they are doing their best," said McCarthy.
Armstrong told 69 News that more crews had been called in for these repairs than ever in the history of PECO. Crews came from all across the country and even Canada.
