Thousands on 24-hour mission in fight against cancer

Thousands of people across Berks County have laced up their shoes to battle against cancer.
The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life is officially underway. It's all about raising awareness and raising money.
More than 1,000 walkers and 65 teams are expected to gather at the Wilson West Middle School Stadium in Spring Township. The Relay for Life of Western Berks is the largest in the county, and it has received national recognition.
Hundreds are also expected to walk at the Relay for Life of Twin Valley in Caernarvon Township. It's a chance to celebrate, remember and fight back.
"We walk for 24 hours, and it symbolizes how cancer never sleeps," said Terri Feeney, the event's publicity chair.
Jennifer DiArcangelo has participated for eight straight years now. She is celebrating her success story, but eight years ago she felt like her world came crashing down.
"It was December 2005 and I was diagnosed with a brain tumor, which I had surgery to remove it," said DiArcangelo, who went through 33 rounds of radiation and two years of chemotherapy.
Jennifer beat the odds.
Then, there's Leslie Coy. She was having fun on the track, but decided to walk to remember her mom.
"I lost my mom 11 years ago to a brain tumor, so I come out to raise money so hopefully everyone else can find a cure for it," said Coy.
That's what it's all about -- to support the American Cancer Society's mission of saving lives.
Renita Goss is fighting back, and she's determined to walk until the very end. Her mom is a breast cancer survivor.
"You got to get out and do something about it, so it's about making the noise and making the awareness and having fun doing it," said Goss.
