PHILADELPHIA -

Temple University said it is canceling its decades-old Spring Fling, citing what they called "a dangerous culture of high-risk drinking" that has become associated with the event.

A campus-wide email sent Tuesday morning said officials will work with student leaders and organizations to craft a new campus-wide event for spring with a different feel.

School officials made no reference to the April death of Ali Fausnaught, a 19-year-old West Chester University student who fell from the roof of a row house during an off-campus party near Temple during Spring Fling.

Officials also said that Spring Fling began when Temple was still a commuter school and they believe the event has outlived its usefulness.
