Fabricio Alvarado arrested in abduction of girl walking to school in Reading

Police have arrested a former substitute teacher in the abduction of a young girl in Reading earlier this week.
Fabricio Alvarado was apprehended Friday and charged with various offenses, including kidnapping, unlawful restraint, indecent assault and indecent exposure.
What is also frightening about the case. detectives said, is that Alvarado was a complete stranger with no connection to the victim.
"We actually got information about who the suspect was through assistance through a family member, the victim's family member, as well as a witness developed through our canvas," said Capt. Jeffrey Parr, Reading Police Dept.
The 8-year-old girl was walking to 10th and Green Elementary School on Tuesday when police said Alvarado forced her into a car in the 600 block of Mulberry Street.
Alvarado then took the girl to his town home in the 2100 block of Elder Street in Muhlenberg Township, just outside the city. Investigators spent Friday afternoon executing a warrant to search the home.
"It appears that there was some inappropriate contact between the suspect and the victim," said Parr.
After some time, police said Alvarado put the girl back in the vehicle and dropped her off near 10th and Robeson streets. The girl was then able to find her way home and report the abduction.
Alvarado, 25, submitted his letter of resignation as a substitute teacher at the I-Lead charter school in Reading just last week, the school's leader said.
"It's sad and unfortunate that he's a part of this. The school runs clearances on all employees before they are are hired. He is no longer an employee of I-Lead," said Yamil Sanchez.
Alvarado had no prior connection to the girl or her family, said police.
"We have had cases where usually a known person was involved, but this is the first one that I am aware of that an unknown person had been involved, which makes this a little more scary," said Parr.
The only prior offenses on Alvarado's record are two traffic tickets
