Spring-Ford sweeps PAC-10 soccer championships
The Spring-Ford boys and girls soccer teams won PAC-10 championships on Thursday night in Royersford.
The boys began the night when they topped Perkiomen Valley, 1-0, on penalty kicks.
The two battled to a stalemate through regulation and overtime, eventually going to penalty kicks.
Perk Valley missed on its first penalty kick, and the Rams never gave back the momentum. They made four straight kicks before goalie Patrick Swartz made a save to seal the championship for Spring-Ford.
The girls game started more than hour late due to the length of the boys game. But it didn't slow down Spring-Ford as the Rams tallied a 2-1 victory over two-time defending champion Boyertown.
Megan Giannopoulos struck first for Spring-Ford just nine minutes into the game.
But Boyertown's Emily Saxon responded shortly thereafter when she buried a free kick into the back of the net that deflected off the Rams' wall.
In the second half, Sarah Hancock netted the eventual game-winner that lifted Spring-Ford to its first PAC-10 championship in girls soccer.
