American speedskater Shani Davis fell short of making to the Olympic podium Saturday, coming in 11th in the 1,500 meters.

Poland's Zbigniew Broda won the gold medal. Korn Verweij of the Netherlands snagged the silver and Canada's Denny Morrison took bronze.

Davis won silver in the distance at both the 2006 and 2010 Winter Olympics. Skating in his third -- and likely final -- Olympics, Davis, 31, already owns two golds in the 1,000-meter distance, but fell well short of adding another earlier this week with an eighth place finish.

Davis finished 24th in the 500 meters earlier in Sochi. He is also scheduled to take part in the team pursuit event next weekend.

Brian Hansen also competed for the U.S. in the event, coming in seventh.

Hansen, a 23-year-old Illinois native, made his Olympic debut in 2010, placing 19th in the 1,500 and winning silver as part of the second-place American pursuit team. Earlier in the Sochi Games he finished ninth in the 1,000. He also pulled out of the 500 meters after one race to instead conserve his energy for his other events.
