Flying Squirrels erupt for 12 runs to take series opener in Baseballtown on Friday.

READING, Pa. -

The Fightins were hoping that a return home can get them back on their winning ways.  Instead the Richmond Flying Squirrels sent Jesse Biddle (3-6) out of the game early as they beat Reading 12-2 on Friday night.  Reading falls to 30-28 on the season.  They have lost eight of their last ten games.

Richmond struck first as Mario Lisson hit a one-out three-run home run off Jesse Biddle in the top of the 1st inning to give the Flying Squirrels a 3-0 lead.  Carlos Alonso got the Fightins on the board 3-1 in the bottom of the 1st inning as he hit a solo home run off Flying Squirrels starter Austin Fleet.

The Flying Squirrels chased Jesse Biddle out of the game after logging just 2 1/3 innings as they scored four runs in the top of the 3rd inning to take a 7-1 lead.  Matt Duffy hit a sacrifice fly while Angel Villalona capped off the inning with three run home run.

Aaron Altherr brought the Fightins within five runs 7-2 bottom of the 5th inning as he hit a RBI single off Fleet to score Carlos Alonso.  Colton Murray tossed 3 2/3 scoreless innings and recorded a season high six strikeouts.  Mike Nesseth gave up four runs off five hits in the top of the 7th inning as Richmond would take an 11-2 lead.  A wild pitch by Austin Wright in the top of the 9th allowed Jarrett Parker to score from third base to give Richmond a 12-2 lead.

Brock Stassi faced one batter in the top of the 9th inning as he got Kelby Tomlinson to fly out to centerfield to end a bases-loaded threat.

The Fightin Phils and Richmond Flying Squirrels meet again on Saturday night at FirstEnergy Stadium.  First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm.  Right-hander Severino Gonzalez (4-6, 5.19 ERA) will be making the start for Reading.
