The Reading and Berks Catholic boys basketball teams suffered tough losses on Friday night at the Hoop Group Showcase in Reading. Both teams had leads in the fourth quarter that they could not hold onto.
In the nightcap, perennial power Chester scratched out a 70-63 victory over Reading High (2-2).
In a tight game entering the final minute, Chester pulled away thanks to some clutch free throws.
Meme Burdine paced the Red Knights with 22 points. Reading will have to wait until Saturday night to get the next shot at win 2000. The Red Knights will host McCaskey.
In the early game, Berks Catholic (3-2) fell, 52-44, to Bishop McNamara (Md.).
Nana Foulland led the way for B.C. with 22 points. But they went ice cold over the last four minutes, failing to make a single field goal in that time.
The loss prevented Saints head coach Snip Esterly from reaching career win no. 600. The next chance will come at home on Tuesday night against Schuylkill Valley.
