Lafayette staged a furious second half rally on Saturday, but fell just short in a 28-24 loss to Colgate at Fisher Stadium.
The loss was Lafayette's first Patriot League setback of the season.
The Leopards now need Lehigh to beat Colgate next week.
If that happens, and then Lafayette beats Lehigh in the regular season finale, then Lafayette would be Patriot League champs.
The Leopards fell behind Colgate 21-3 and 28-10 at the half.
Lafayette scored back-to-back touchdowns in the third quarter, and threatened in the fourth, but couldn't complete the comeback.
Freshman quarterback Drew Reed went 19-of-25 for 271 yards and two touchdowns.
Ross Scheuerman ran for 56 yards and added 91 receiving yards, and scored all three of Lafayette's touchdowns.
