Geezers returns to Maple Grove Raceway this weekend

The Geezers Reunion at the Grove is scheduled for this weekend. It's a nostalgia event, featuring classic cars.

The Geezers Reunion at The Grove is back by popular demand this weekend. Paul Smith is among many of the event's contributors who will be providing the event's signature classic cars.

The nostalgia event, featuring the Auto-Plus Cavalcade of Funny Cars and the Mickey Thompson Tires DRO AA/FC Challenge, will be run Friday and Saturday.
 
The Geezers Reunion will include two E.T. racing brackets for pre-1983 cars with time runs on Saturday and eliminations on Sunday. On Saturday, The popular car show and cruise will also be in the program.
 
And for more nostalgia, the card will include Nostalgia Stock-Super Stock, Vintage F/X and Gassers, along with the Boninfrante Friction 7.0 Index Front-engine Dragsters and Altereds that will run on Saturday.
 
Also included in the show are Danny O’Day’s Wheelstander and Bob VanSciver’s Jet Dragster. The 2013 Class of the Maple Grove Raceway Walk of Fame will be inducted.
 
There will be a car show, and a cruise to the track from Wimpy & Dee’s Diner in Honey Brook, on Saturday. Car show judging will be at 2 p.m. and awards at 4 p.m.
 
The AA/FC Challenge features some of the best Nostalgia Funny Cars in the nation competing for points and prizes. Some of the nitro cars booked into the show include Brand X, driven by Mike Lewis; Poverty Stricken, driven by Peter Gallen; Jungle Jim; Jake Crimmins; Mike Burkett’s Camaro driven by John Hale; Blue Max driven by Ronnie Young; and the Violator driven by Shawn Bowen.
 
The nitro-powered Funny Cars will have two qualifying runs on Friday night, Aug. 2, at 7 and 9 p.m. It’s also an old-fashioned “Fox Hunt” with all lady spectators (no racers) admitted free. Male spectators are $20 and children 12 and under are free. A Friday/Saturday ticket for adult males are $40. All tickets include a pit pass.
 
The Funny Cars will then return for eliminations as part of Saturday night’s big show, beginning at 6 p.m. Eight Alcohol-powered Funny Cars will also compete with two rounds and a Chicago Style format to pick a champion.
 
Bracket racers can warm-up Friday night at the Auto Locator Grudge Race for $20 or $25 for towed cars. Entry fee for the bracket racers on Saturday and Sunday is $50 for two days.
 
Saturday/Sunday tickets, which includes a pit pass, are $35, a Saturday-only ticket is $25 and a Sunday-only ticket is $15. Teenagers, ages 13-15, are $10 each day, while children 12-and-under are free.
