Fightin Phils drop first game of homestand to Harrisburg

The Reading Fightin Phils' miserable May continued Friday night with a 7-4 loss to Harrisburg in the first game of a seven-game homestand in Baseballtown.

The Fightin Phils are now 3-14 in their 17 games in May.

Reading fell behind 5-0 before trimming that lead to 5-3.

They loaded the bases in the ninth inning, but Tommy Mendoca was thrown out at the plate to end the game.

Greg Smith (1-2, 3.50) allowed five runs, only one of which was earned, over six innings for Reading on the mound.

Tyson Gillies had two hits and two RBIs for the Fightins, who also got three hits from Albert Cartwright.

The Fightin Phils (15-24) will resume their series with the Senators on Saturday at 6:35pm at FirstEnergy Stadium.
