The Boyertown legion baseball team captured its record 23rd state championship last weekend. The Bears have qualified for the Mid-Atlantic Tournament, joining Twin Valley as Pennsylvania's representatives.
Boyertown knocked off Twin Valley, 11-1, in the state title game at Bear Stadium on Sunday. The win was big for the Bear's psyche, who had struggled to beat the Raiders in the postseason.
But both teams have put the rivalry aside (for now) and are excited to represent Pennsylvania at the Mid-Atlantic Regional. The accomplishment speaks for the level of baseball in Berks county, and Boyertown has been at the top of that list for years.
The Bears plan on adding one more chapter.
Boyertown will meet West Seneca (NY) in Thursday's opening round in Camden, NJ at 12:30.
