Albright men, women sweep Arcadia
The Albright men's and women's basketball team swept a double-header with Arcadia on Wednesday night at the Bollman Center.
Freshman Sameen Swint pulled the Albright College men’s basketball team back into the game midway through the second half and then hit the game-winner with seven seconds remaining, as the Albright College men’s basketball defeated Arcadia 85-84 on Wednesday.
Swint finished with a game-high 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting. He drove from right corner and finished on Albright’s final possession to give the Lions the victory.
Arcadia had a great chance to tie at the buzzer as Joe Brown’s put-back attempt off Aaron Lee-Webb’s missed jumper was just short .
With Albright trailing 64-57 at the midway point of the second half, Swint scored seven straight to pull his team level. After making two free throws, he pulled down a defensive rebound and hit a jumper at the other end.
Swint then came up a steal and took it the other way for a three-point play that tied the game. The rookie was the only person on the floor to score over a stretch of nearly three minutes.
Albright improves to 2-3 and 1-1 in the Commonwealth Conference ahead of a big road game at local rival, and defending league champion, Alvernia University on Saturday.
The Albright College women’s basketball team kept Arcadia quiet for most of the second half, holding off the Knights 62-55 on Wednesday in the Bollman Center.
Junior Jessica Venturelli had 14 points and four assists for Albright, both game-highs, and made 8-of-10 free throw attempts. Sophomore Kelecia Harris had 10 points and four blocks, while classmate Emily O’Donnell added nine points and six rebounds.
Albright opened the game on an 8-0 run that was answered immediately by a 12-0 stretch from the visitors.
Albright improves to 3-2, 1-1 and hands Arcadia (5-1, 0-1) its first loss of the season. The Lions will travel across town Saturday for a 1 p.m. game against rival Alvernia.
