Albright, Alvernia women fall at home

The Lions and Crusaders suffered tough losses at home on Monday evening.


The Albright and Alvernia women's basketball teams lost on their home courts Monday night.

At the Bollman Center, The Albright College women's basketball team saw its five-game win streak end in a tight 65-59 loss to Messiah.

After Shannon Thomas was fouled on the fast break and made one free throw to give Albright a 56-55 lead with 3:42 left, Messiah answered with a 6-0 run on six free throws. Albright leading scorer and rebounder Kelecia Harris also fouled out during that stretch.

Sophomore Emily O'Donnell had another good shooting night, totaling a game-high 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting.


Albright falls to 7-3, 2-2 and will conclude a four-game homestand on Wednesday when the Lions face Stevenson in the Bollman Center.

At Jack McCloskey Court, Dickinson College (3-7) sophomore Jennifer Smith scored a career-high 29 points leading the Red Devils to a 92-70 win over Alvernia University (4-7) Monday evening in non-conference women's basketball action.

Alvernia returns to the conference schedule Wednesday when it hosts Hood College for a women's and men's doubleheader.
