Wilson WL uses late surge to top Governor Mifflin on the mats

The Bulldogs erased an early deficit by dominating the later bouts in a 41-27 victory over the Mustangs Wednesday night.

SPRING TOWNSHIP, Pa. -

When Governor Mifflin (3-1, 11-3) and Wilson West Lawn (4-0, 4-2) get together to play anything, it's a lot of fun.  We see it annually on the football field to start the year and that sets the tone for the rest of the school year.

Wednesday night, these two old rivals were together again, this time on the confined space of the wrestling mat in a huge Berks I showdown.

Governor Mifflin held a 24-23 lead going into the final four bouts of the night, but they could not hold on. The Bulldogs won three of those last four decisions to pick up a 41-27 win.

The Mustangs had the early momentum after winning five of the first seven bouts.  Pins from Marcus Johnson and Jan Johnson put them up 12-0 right away.

But Wilson won six of the last seven decisions overall that proved to be the decisive blow. Bryce Pych, Adam Brown and Andy Francos each won via the pin.

Both teams will be in action Wednesday. Wilson pays a visit to Twin Valley. Governor Mifflin heads to Daniel Boone.
