Phillies Winter Banquet brings Darin Ruf back to Reading; Amaro talks Delmon Young
The Philadelphia Phillies spend a few nights every January visiting their minor league affiliates and their fans.
They were in Reading Tuesday evening and will be visiting the Lehigh Valley on Thursday.
Tuesday night's event in Reading included new Fightin' Phils home run king Darin Ruf.
Ruf was one of the featured guests at the banquet and he received a nice welcome from fans in attendance.
For Ruf, it was a fun night before he tries to earn a spot in the Phillies lineup in the next few months.
Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. was also in town as part of the banquet tour.
Good timing considering the Phillies signed outfielder Delmon Young to a one year contract on Tuesday.
Young had a solid year with the Tigers last season, hitting 18 home runs and providing some pop from the right side of the plate.
Amaro is happy to have Young although he knows there's a risk in signing him.
