Berks Catholic boys advance to District III Final; Oley girls fall in OT

The Berks Catholic boys topped Donegal to earn a trip to the District 3 title game. The Oley Valley girls could not hold onto a late lead and fell to Delone Catholic in overtime in their semifinal game.

The Berks Catholic Saints are returning to the District III championship following a 41-38 win over Donegal.

The Saints offense was stagnant in the first quarter as the Indians jumped out to a 16-6 lead. That lead would quickly be erased as Mike Miller and Connor Jack led the Saints on a 16-2 offensive onslaught in the second quarter.

Following a four point halftime lead, the Saints and Indians traded the lead throughout the second half of play.  With the game winding down, Cooper Kutz sank a pair of freethrows to seal the game for Berks Catholic.

Chris Warren paced the Berks Catholic offense with a game high 13 points and Connor Jack and Nana Foulland each added 8 points.

The Saints will look to defend their District III title Thursday against the #12 seed Palmyra, who upset the #1 Seed Susquehanna Township Monday night.

At Millersville, the Oley Valley Lynx lost 73-72 in overtime to Delone Catholic despite a career high 29 points from Courtney Dunn in a District III semifinal game.

Oley led by 3 in the final seconds of the game, but Abbey Sponseller hit a three to tie the game and send it into overtime.

The Lynx had a 1-point lead with less than 20 seconds left in OT. But, once again, Oley could not hold onto the lead. Mary Gingrow hit a turnaround jumper with 10 seconds left to give Delone a lead it wouldn't give back.

Brandi Vallely scored 19 points in addition to Dunn's 29. Amanda Rizzuti was also in double figures with 16.

Oley can still make the state tournament if they defeat Annville-Cleona in the District's third-place game at a date and time to be determined.
