Berks Catholic boys, Wilson WL girls repeat as county champs
At the Sovereign Center, the Berks Catholic boys repeated as county champions with a 62-49 win over Reading High Friday evening.
Nana Foulland had a monster game for the Saints, scoring 17 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. The Saints also got great performances from Connor Jack and Chris Warren. Jack led all scorers with 20 points while Warren tallied 14.
Jalan Branford and Gil Benz were in double figures for Reading. Branford dropped 12 while Benz had 10.
Both teams will now turn their attention to districts. Berks Catholic is the 3-seed in the AAA boys bracket and will play (14) Bermudian Springs at home Tuesday night. Reading is the 10-seed in the AAAA field and will play at (7) Elizabethtown on Wednesday.
At the Sovereign Center, the Wilson West Lawn girls also repeated as county champions with a 53-35 victory over Berks Catholic.
Wilson's Avery Marz paced everyone with 19 points. She got help from Ivory Bailey's 13 and Carley Brew's 10.
Devon Merritt was the only scorer for the Saints in double figures with 12.
The Bulldogs are the 2-seed in the AAAA bracket and will host (18) Harrisburg Tuesday night. Berks Catholic is the 7-seed in the AAA field and will welcome division rival (10) Fleetwood in their district opener Wednesday.
In Shillington, (16) Governor Mifflin won a district play-in game, 47-43, over (17) Solanco Friday night.
Kylie Herman led the way for the Mustangs with 11 points.
Governor Mifflin will go on the road to face top-seeded Dover on Tuesday.
