BERKS SOCCER: Wilson WL boys advance to state finals; Tulpehocken boys, Wilson WL girls ousted in semis

Published On: Nov 13 2012 10:32:31 PM CST

The Tulpehocken boys soccer team fell to Pequea Valley 2-1 (5-3 PK's) in the state AA semifinals. The Wilson West Lawn boys advanced to the state AAA finals with a 1-0 win over La Salle Tuesday night.

The Tulpehocken boys soccer team went to Hershey a few times last year.  They finished in Hershey one win short of last year's state championship.

They looked to make amends this year. That meant the Trojans had to win in the semifinals where they faced Pequea Valley Tuesday night at Governor Mifflin.

Victor Weaver scored the game's first goal for the Braves with less than 17 minutes left in the second half.

But Tulpehocken responded when Brandon Daub punched in a loose ball off a corner kick ten minutes later.

The game would go into overtime tied 1-1. It would stay that way and went to penalty kicks.

Pequea Valley goalie Brandon Hoover stopped Jose Lopez's shot in the third round to give the Braves the edge.

Ethan Hoover would put it away with his shot in the fifth round as the Braves won the shootout 5-3 and defeated Tulpehocken 2-1 to advance to the class AA state championship game.

The Trojans had a phenomenal season. They played in the county championship game, won the district championship and finished 21-7 overall.

Bryan Fegley scored on a header with less than four minutes left in the game to give the Bulldogs the victory.

Wilson will play Upper St. Clair in the state championship game at 6:30 on Saturday night at Hersheypark Stadium.

As for the Wilson West Lawn girls, their season ends in the PIAA AAA semifinals.

The Bulldogs fell to Peters Township 5-0 Tuesday evening in Chambersburg.

Wilson finishes 22-3-1 on the season.
