In a room filled with current and past board members and staff members, all showing their support, Solicitor James A. Bartholomew retired Monday evening after representing the Southern Lehigh School District for more than 35 years. At least he thinks it’s been 35 years.

In his farewell remarks, Bartholomew said he has worked with the district for so long that it is tough to rely on memory alone for an accurate figure. He estimates further: he attended 700 board meetings, met 60 board members, and worked alongside five superintendents.

He became emotional talking about the district, saying his time there, however long, is the “most rewarding and satisfying” of his career.

Bartholomew said he will continue working at Fitzpatrick, Lentz & Bubba, the firm he joined three years ago. According to the firm’s Web site, he works in the Estate Planning and Administration of Estates and Trusts group.

Board President Jeffrey Dimmig said the board has a replacement in mind.

When presenting Bartholomew with a gift from the district, Dimmig told the audience, “He has given solid legal advice that has kept us out of the newspapers.”
