Gusty winds limited the use of balloons during the annual Thanksgiving parade in Philadelphia on Thursday.
Parade sponsor WPVI-TV said officials announced early Thursday that the balloons would not be seen along the entire route of the parade.
Instead, officials said, some of the larger balloons were grounded out of concern for the safety of participants and spectators. Smaller ones were limited to Eakins Oval and the broadcast area near the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
The National Weather Service reported winds of about 17 miles per hour gusting to 28 miles per hour at Philadelphia International Airport.
In New York, handlers kept 16 giant balloons fairly close to the ground in tree-lined areas during Thursday's annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
