Updated On: Aug 22 2013 05:19:46 PM CDT
A 13-mile stretch of the Pennsylvania Turnpike will be closed in both directions for six hours early Sunday between the Lansdale and Quakertown exits.
That section is being closed to place concrete girders on the bridge that carries Fretz Road over the turnpike at milepost A31.7 in Lower Salford Township, Montgomery County.
At 12:01 a.m. Sunday, southbound traffic will be diverted to the Quakertown interchange and northbound traffic to the Lansdale interchange. Motorists wishing to travel north from the Mid-County interchange or the main east/west turnpike will be directed to exit at Lansdale.
In case of inclement weather, the closure will be rescheduled. according to the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission.
Prior to the shutdown, the left lanes will be closed northbound and southbound at 8 p.m. Saturday between mileposts A31 and A33.
The speed limit will be posted at 40 mph until the single-lane patterns are lifted.
Construction-zone speed limits will be enforced and fines increased.
Pennsylvania State Police and turnpike personnel will be positioned at the Lansdale and Quakertown interchanges to assist motorists.
One lane in each direction on the Northeast Extension will reopen to traffic by 6 a.m.
Motorists can tune to radio 1640 AM for detour information and traffic conditions or call the Turnpike Roadway Information line at 866-976-8747.
Electronic message signs will provide updated information regarding closures and detours. Motorists are encouraged to plan accordingly. For emergencies, dial *11 on mobile phones.
