Timothy James Kane faces child porn charges

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -

Timothy James Kane, 32, of Telford was charged Thursday with one count of possession of child pornography, one count of receipt of child pornography and one count of distribution of child pornography, announced U.S. Attorney Zane David Memeger.

If convicted, Kane faces a maximum sentence of 50 years’ imprisonment, a five-year mandatory minimum term of imprisonment, a three-year term of supervised release, a $750,000 fine and a $300 special assessment.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul G. Shapiro.

The arrest was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

The program was launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice, the program is led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section.
