State police arrest Rose O'Brien of Upper Bucks Senior Center
Rosezonda "Rose" O'Brien, well-known manager of the Upper Bucks Senior Center, has been charged with theft by Pennsylvania State Police at Dublin.
O'Brien is accused of stealing $22,880 from the center, as well as making unauthorized purchases of food for her personal use.
The 60-year-old Quakertown resident was arrested Friday.
Charges against O'Brien include theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception and receiving stolen property.
When confronted by police, she said she was under a tremendous amount of stress last year and behind in her bills.
The senior center is in the 2000 block of Milford Square Pike in Milford Township, Bucks County.
Police said O'Brien was able to steal from the center because she was in charge of organizing catering and trips as well as depositing checks at Quakertown National Bank.
In March, the senior center hired Ronald P. Feldman from Gitomer & Berenholz to conduct an audit. Feldman discovered a total of $22,880.55 in unsubstantiated reimbursements between Oct. 26 and March 18.
During that time, according to police, O'Brien wrote 26 checks from the center's general account and deposited them into her personal account without authorization.
Police said when confronted about the missing money, the suspect confirmed $22,880.55 was the accurate amount of what she stole.
Police said O'Brien also made unauthorized purchases at Derstine's food distributor in Sellersville for her personal use. Invoices name the senior center as the customer but list O'Brien's residence as the address. Orders were delivered to O'Brien's apartment at 60 Alan Lane, Quakertown. The food never was used at the senior center, according to police.
