Stphen Stace arrested for child porn
NORRISTIOWN, Pa. -

Stephen Stace, a retired professor at Pennsylvania State University, was arrested Thursday on child pornography and other charges in Montgomery County.

The 65-year-old man has been charged with exchanging nude photos and e-mails that were "sexual in nature" with a 16-year-old girl who lives in Spain.

The defendant was associate professor of music and integrative arts at Penn State's Abington campus. He told investigators he took nude photos of himself in his office at the college and then emailed them to the girl.

The Upper Dublin Township resident has been charged with possession of child pornography, unlawful contact with a minor, dissemination of obscene materials to a minor, corruption of minors and criminal use of a communication facility.

The investigation began Aug. 26, when the Montgomery County detective bureau received information from Delaware County's criminal investigations division that an e-mail was found on Stace’s home computer, in which he communicated with the girl in Spain.

The e-mail was sexual in nature and made reference to photographs shared between Stace and the teen-ager, according to Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman.

On  Aug. 28, investigators from the  detective bureau and Upper Dublin police  met with Stace at his home, where he admitted communicating with the girl.

Investigators examined Stace’s computer and located numerous images of the girl  in various stages of nudity. The computer also contained child pornography depicting other minors as well as several nude images of Stace.

On Sept. 16, investigators  again met with Stace, who admitted trading nude images with the girl from Spain.

He also informed investigators that he is a recently retired Penn State professor and that he communicated with the girl from his office, using his Penn State e-mail address.

Those communications included occasions where Stace took nude photos of himself inside his office at Penn State Abington  to send to the girl.

On Sept. 19, investigators executed a search warrant on Stace’s Penn State e-mail account and discovered a series of e-mails exchanged between Stace and the girl in Spain.

Investigators said all the e-mails are sexual in nature and contain sexually graphic information, including Stace repeatedly expressing his desire to meet the teen to engage in sexual activity.

Investigators also discovered that Stace sent at least three nude images of himself to the girl, while repeatedly asking her to send him nude images of herself.

They discovered that she did send Stace several images of herself in various stages of nudity.

On Thursday, Stace was arraigned before Magisterial District Justice Patricia Zaffarano.

Stace’s bail was set at 10 percent of $75,000. The defendant did post bail after being arraigned, according to a staffer in the county district attorney's office.

A preliminary hearing has scheduled for 12:15 p.m. Oct. 21 before Zaffarano.

Assistant District Attorney Jordan Friter has been assigned to prosecute the case.
