Heavy rains and a deadly crash closed most lanes of a busy interstate in the Philadelphia region, where a flood warning was posted in another area.
Area media reported a multi-vehicle crash closed the westbound lanes of the Schuylkill Expressway (Interstate 76) near the Montgomery Drive exit.
The crash happened around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, involving at least two cars and a gasoline tanker truck.
Dispatchers said one person died and two others were transported from the scene.
Earlier, all eastbound lanes of the highway were closed due to flooding, but one lane of traffic past flooded sections was later reopened.
Ironically the flooded section of the eastbound side was in the same area as the fatal accident on the westbound side.
Officials were urging drivers on what is traditionally one of the busiest travel days of the year to use alternate routes.
