PHILADELPHIA -

An unlicensed doctor who went on trial with rogue abortion provider Kermit Gosnell has been sentenced to house arrest for her work at his clinic in Philadelphia.

Dr. Eileen O'Neill did not perform abortions, but she treated mostly geriatric patients.

Prosecutors said she held herself out as a doctor, while the defense said she was training under Gosnell while seeking a Pennsylvania medical license.

O'Neill was sentenced Monday to six to 23 months of house arrest at her home in Phoenixville, Chester Co., where she cares for an elderly mother.

Defense lawyer James Berardinelli said O'Neill will likely never practice medicine again, given convictions for theft and conspiracy. He says O'Neill, 56, had been manipulated by Gosnell.

Gosnell, 72, is serving life without parole for killing three babies born alive.
