Quakertown Community School District honored their school board members, teachers and students during Thursday night's school board meeting.
"PSBA picks a theme every year," said Dr. Lisa Andrejko, Superintendent, "This year it is 'Serving Every Child Every Day.'" Due to January being School Director Recognition Month, student artwork was dedicated to the school board.
Donated to the school board were works "Leaf and Stamp Prints" by Aidan Burke, 3rd Grade, Richland Elementary School, "Snowman at Night" by Mitchell Stover, 4th Grade, Thicken Valley Elementary School and "Wake Up Old Dog" by Noel Pernia, 6th Grade, Strayer Middle School.
The artwork will be circulated through the district building, thanking the school board for their dedication to the district.
Aside from visual art, literature was also given in thanks to the board. Books received were "Unbroken" by Laura Hillenbrand from the Quakertown Community Senior High School, "A Blaze of Glory" by Jeff Shaara from the Freshman Center and "I Funny, A Middle School Story" by James Patterson from Strayer Middle School.
The school board also took the time to recognize and thank those teachers, faculty and staff of the district who have served 25 or more years. Those recognized include Stella Barr, Martha Nolan, Andrew Evan, Sally Sugita, Gail Ferry, Helen Swavely, Carol Butz, Laurie Gross, Amy Heisler, Janet Weihbrecht, Antonio Curto, Victoria Breiner, Karen Evans, Lynn Gunning, Linda Ossman, Diane Golrick, Daniel Seislove and Suzanne Laverick-Stone.
"I would like to thank you for your years of service and look forward to years in the future," Bob Smith School Board President stated, "Thank you again for all of your effort."
Principals of each of the school brought up a highlighted family from their school to accept the Keystone Awards.
"The Keystone Awards are given to schools across Pennsylvania who have made adequate yearly progress for two consecutive years of No Child Left Behind," Andrejko said, as Quakertown is continuing to meet their targets.
The district was also proud to present the 3rd Annual AP Honor Roll for Expanding Opportunity and Improving Performance for AP Students for 2011 - 12.
The next Quakertown School Board meeting will be 7 p.m. Feb. 28, 100 Commerce Drive, Quakertown.
