Police are investigating a crash that claimed two lives in Silverdale Borough, Bucks County, late Saturday afternoon.
Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene of the two-car crash.
The accident occurred 5:20 p.m. on North Baringer Avenue when a Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by 32-year-old Stacy Byrne of Croydon, was struck from behind while stopped at a red traffic signal by a Toyota Camry driven by 49-year-old Mary E. Dodds of North Wales, police said.
The force of the impact caused the Cavalier to travel across the intersection where it sideswiped a utility pole and then struck a clothing collection bin before stopping.
Following the initial impact, the Camry traveled into the lot of a shed business, vaulted into the air after striking a large rock and crashed into numerous sheds.
A passenger in the Cavalier -- the driver's husband, Ian Byrne -- was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, police said.
The investigation is continuing to determine the cause of the crash. Police believe speed was a major factor.
The roadways were closed for about three-and-a-half hours while police conducted their investigation.
