A Plymouth Township police officer has been killed in the line of duty.
Montgomery County District Attorney, Risa Vetri-Ferman, identified the officer as Brad Fox, a two-time Iraq war veteran who was a K-9 officer in Plymouth Township.
“We're all in shock... standing here today is the moment we always hoped would never come,” said Vetri-Ferman.
“This was a senseless, senseless act for a car accident," said Chief Joseph Lawrence.
Fox served seven years on the Plymouth Township police force and recently graduated from the Philadelphia K-9 School, Lawrence said. He would have turned 35 years-old on Friday.
Fox is the first Plymouth officer killed in the line of duty.
Fox and his K-9 partner Nick responded to an accident near a bike path on Conshohocken Road and Ernest Station Road in Plymouth Township around 6:00pm Wednesday, authorities said.
Fox was shot in the head responding to the hit-and run crash, Vetri-Ferman said. K-9 Nick was also shot but survived.
Roads in the area were closed off by police immediately after the incident. Commuter trains were also stopped in the area.
Fox and his wife have a young child and were expecting their second, Lawrence said.
“Brad Fox is a hero," said Lawrence.
The suspect was also killed but no details were released about the incident.
