Mummers Parade
PHILADELPHIA -

Thousands of colorfully costumed Mummers are making their annual New Year's Day strut in Philadelphia.

The 113th annual Mummers parade got under way around 10 a.m. Tuesday, hours after the opening of 2013. Throngs of sequined and brightly attired participants began pouring out of on Broad Street in south Philadelphia to take part in the century-old tradition.

Thousands are watching them do their trademark strut. Skits have featured a festooned, glittery yellow tank and a gigantic red, white and blue "Uncle Sam" hat geared toward thanking military service members.  Another group featured performers who amassed into a sea of pink to commemorate breast cancer awareness. Another honored American Bandstand.

The Fralinger String Band is also marching, weeks after some of its props were damaged in a fire.
