South Whitehall police catch burglar stripping house

SOUTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. -

South Whitehall Township police caught a burglar in the act as he was stripping an empty house that was being renovated.

Timothy Alexander Horlacher is in Lehigh County Prison. His bail was set at $50,000.

The houseĀ  is at 411 N. Cedar Crest Blvd., at the corner of Cedar Crest and Shrewsbury Road in the township.

Police said Horlacher was in the process of burglarizing the place when arrested. He had removed portions of the heating system, window screens and more.

Investigators learned Horlacher had cashed in scrap items taken from the property at United Compressed Steel, 802 N. 13th St., Allentown.

Further investigation, including surveillance on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, revealed the suspect gained illegal entry into the house and was in the process of removing additional pieces of the heating and air conditioning systems, as well as door knobs, brass carpet stays, plumbing and even electrical wiring.

Police said Horlacher caused extensive damage to all mechanical systems in the structure.
