Nearly three months ago, a beloved Berks County soccer coach was killed in a tragic car accident.
On Sunday, his Caernarvon Township community came together to support the family and the sport he so loved.
Fifty-year-old Dean Secord touched a lot of lives.
The long time Twin Valley soccer coach was killed back in February after police say another driver came into his lane and slammed into Secord's car head-on. His twin 7-year-old boys were in the backseat and survived.
"The message of support that we've received from the community has really helped us in the healing process," shared Secord's widow Jenn. "And it's definitely let us know that we're not alone."
Hundreds came out to help the family once again. The Coach Secord Memorial Soccer Tournament was held at Twin Valley High School -- the same school where Secord led the boys' soccer team for 15 seasons.
"I think all the kids, you know, it's just been a great therapy for them to be involved in this," explained parent Liz Beebe. "And they've come together as a team."
"He was a great leader, a good inspiration to us all and we miss him a lot," player Chase Rusden added.
"It's obviously a very emotional day for us," described player Bret Beebe. "Especially those that were really close to him and played for him."
Fifty teams signed up to play in the all-day tournament, and all of the money earned will directly benefit Secord's family.
"From the concession stand profits, to team registration, everything is just going directly into the boys' fund," said Rusden.
The family says coaching soccer was one of Secord's passions, and the event just shows the kind of impact Secord had on so many lives.
"It really lifts me up to know that the boys and I are not alone," smiled Jenn. "That we are surrounded by so many people that are willing to take the time and the effort and the energy to help support us."
