Die-hard skiers and snowboarders had one last day of riding Sunday. Blue Mountain Ski area closed down at 5 p.m. after one of the longest seasons ever.
Blue Mountain was open and bustling Sunday. Folks getting in one last day of riding before the slopes close for the season.
"It's awesome," smiled Katarina Ohnmacht. "It's slushy, it's nice, if you fall it doesn't hurt, it's great."
"You got people out here wearing shorts, t-shirts, girls in miniskirts," Bruce Shickora described. "I saw a lady with a full dress, like awesome!"
"We are the last ski area open in Pennsylvania," shared Blue Mountain General Manager Jim Dailey.
He said this marked the longest season for Blue. Skiers and snowboarders were able to ride from November until mid-April.
"Our season this year spanned 136 days," Dailey explained. "Of the 136 days, 122 days we were operational, and anybody in Pennsylvania would be proud of that."
That's a feat that hasn't been accomplished here in recent years.
"It revives our spirits," added Dailey. "We were due, you know winter came back, it was a regular winter, we saw those crowded weekends that we really need, the holiday week was good for us, we didn't get rained out, and conditions were just excellent."
The final day only lasted nine hours, but hundreds of people headed up the hill.
"It's great spring skiing. Whoever's not here is really missing it!"
"This is a blast," said Joseph Nicholas. "To be out here in the middle of April it's a lot of fun, it's really awesome."
Dailey said Blue clocked about 400,000 visits this season, and he's hoping for a repeat next winter.
"It was our best season ever," he shared. "Please come back next year, and thank you Mother Nature."
Blue Mountain opens for its summer activities starting May 10th.
