LOWER NAZARETH TWP., Pa -

A Georgia man tried to steal three pairs of shoes from a Northampton County department store by hiding them under his clothing and in a backpack.

Michael A. Lemmon was stopped with the shoes coming out of the Kohl's store at 3768 Easton-Nazareth Highway, Lower Nazareth Township, around 7:10 p.m. Tuesday, officials said.

After hiding one pair of shoes under his clothing on his rear end, Lemmon and a female companion each took a pair of shoes into a fitting room and then put them into a green backpack Lemmon was carrying.

The female brought the empty shoe boxes out of the fitting room and placed them on a shelf, then she and Lemmon walked out of the store, officials said.

Lemmon had the shoes, worth a total of $155.22, on him when they were stopped in the parking lot by store security.

Lemmon told police the shoplifting was all his idea. Officials said the woman was given a citation and Lemmon was taken into custody.

Lemmon, 21, of Atlanta, Ga., was arraigned on charges of retail theft and conspiracy and committed to  Northampton County Prison on $5,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 2 p.m. Dec. 16.
