Scott Brion seeks to unseat Rep. Marino

Democrat Scott Brion is poised to challenge incumbent Tom Marino for the Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District election following Tuesday’s primary filing deadline.
Marino (R) has held office in the district since 2010, carrying 66 percent of the vote in his 2012 reelection campaign.
The former Lycoming County District Attorney, Marino is a self-described fiscal and social conservative, opposing overregulation of the private sector and repeatedly voting to defund the Affordable Care Act.
Opposing candidate Scott Brion is a native of Liberty, Pennsylvania, and has been an executive in the energy field for 20 years.
Brion is a proponent of environmental conservation, investment in education and an individual’s right to bear arms.
He believes that, although flawed, the ACA is an improvement on the private healthcare system.
Democratic candidate Adam Rodriguez was expected to declare his candidacy but opted not to do so by this Tuesday’s deadline for unknown reasons.
Rodriguez’s campaign had proposed a one percent Wall Street Sales Tax and a $15 minimum wage.
He also seeks to implement a moratorium on hydraulic fracking.
Rodriquez, an ex-carpenter, currently works in the clothing industry as a graphic designer.
Nick Troiano, the sole independent in the field, is expected to declare by Aug. 1, the filing deadline for third-party and independent representatives.
He believes that the American political system has been hamstrung by partisan gridlock and the influence of special interests groups.
A native of Pike County, Troiano is currently a James Madison Fellow with a D.C.-based non-profit, Millennial Action Project.
In 2011, he graduated from Georgetown University with a Master’s degree in American government.
The 10th Congressional District stretches through 15 northern Pennsylvania counties, including parts of Monroe and Pike counties.
Primary elections for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will take place May 20.
