POTTSVILLE, Pa. -

A Schuylkill County official has stepped down amid allegations he used county money for personal reasons.

The resignation of Clerk of Courts Stephen Lukach was announced during a news conference in Pottsville on Friday.

Lukach is accused of using county funds to make payments on his own vehicle and for other personal items.

Lukach's resignation is effective April 17, and the district attorney said his office will be under 24-hour security watch to make sure no evidence is removed.

Lukach, of Nesquehoning, has been a county employee for 27 years and has also served as president of the Pennsylvania State Association of Clerks of Courts and Prothonotaries.

WFMZ's Bo Koltnow will have more on this story on 69 News 6.
