Reading police: Man who stabbed ex-girlfriend as she held children may be in Puerto Rico
Reading Police say a suspected attacker may have fled to Puerto Rico. They're now asking the U.S. Marshals for help finding a man accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend as she held her own children.
"The crime speaks for itself," said Sgt. John Solecki with Reading Police. "He stabbed and slashed his girlfriend several times while she was actually holding and protecting her small children."
Patricia Spencer lives upstairs from where it happened on Perkiomen Avenue.
"It was horrible," she said. "I came down, in my robe and slippers, and held the children on my lap on the porch, while the police were going through the crime."
"That's bad," added neighbor Juan Saez. "In front of the kids? Very bad."
Police have now charged the victim's ex-boyfriend with attempted murder, but they think he may be long gone.
"He might be in Puerto Rico," said Solecki.
Police are looking for Bladimir del Valle. U.S. Marshals have now joined the hunt for him.
"That was a terrible thing to happen to a beautiful woman," said Spencer.
The victim is now home from the hospital, according to police. Those who know her are confident police will capture her alleged attacker.
"They'll get him," said Spencer. "Somebody will turn him in."
