An accused killer remains on the street following a deadly stabbing in Reading.
Police identified the suspect as Julio Angel Ortiz-Lugo.
Ortiz-Lugo entered a home in the 500 block of Minor Street by breaking a second floor window around 7 a.m. Sunday, said police, adding that they believe he then killed the victim near the front door before running off and getting into the passenger seat of a getaway car.
"A 911 call came in saying a known male had just stabbed another male inside of 504 Minor street," said Sgt. John Solecki, Reading Police Dept., noting that Ortiz-Lugo, 30, was a former friend of the victim, whose name has not been released.
Two women and several children were living in the home at the time of the killing, Solecki said.
"The rest of the occupants in the home were awakened by the sound of the victim screaming," Solecki said.
Ortiz-Lugo resided in that home up until a month ago, Solecki confirmed.
"The suspect had been living there with a female. That relationship ended and the female still resides there, but the suspect was told he was no longer allowed there," Solecki said.
Solecki said police are still working to determine a motive, but desperately need information on where Ortiz-Lugo may be hiding out. Anyone who spots Ortiz-Lugo should call 911 immediately.
Police also strongly encourage the driver of the getaway car, or anyone with information on who was in the car, to call Reading police at 610-655-6246 or Crime Alert Berks County at 877-373-9913.
Solecki said Ortiz-Lugo has a prior criminal record and District Attorney John Adams confirmed Ortiz-Lugo was under supervision for previous charges at the time of the murder.
